ACOUSTIC ASSESSMENT

At Converged Technology we understand the importance of audio inside the meeting space and appreciate that technology can only get you so far… you just can’t beat physics. It doesn’t matter how new and shiny that microphone is, if the room fundamentals are poor the audio performance will suffer. We offer a range of acoustic assessment and design offerings to ensure you are getting the best out of your meeting room technology.

WHY ARE ACOUSTICS IMPORTANT?

Most people have spent time in a poor sounding room and know how challenging it can be. Whether it be echo/reverberation, significant background noise or issues related to sound transmission – these problems can lead to user fatigue and real frustration when audio and video conferencing technologies are added to the mix.

It’s critical the acoustic performance of the room or meeting space aligns.

OPTIMAL COMMUNICATION

Acoustic assessments ensure that workplaces and meeting rooms are designed to minimise background noise, reverberation, and echoes. This enhances speech intelligibility, allowing for clearer communication and improved productivity during meetings and collaborative work sessions.

EMPLOYEE WELL-BEING

Excessive noise levels can lead to stress, fatigue, and reduced concentration among employees. Acoustic assessments help identify and mitigate sources of noise pollution, creating a more comfortable and conducive working environment that promotes employee well-being and satisfaction.

PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

In workplaces where sensitive discussions occur, such as board meetings or client consultations, ensuring adequate acoustic privacy is crucial. Proper acoustic design prevents sound leakage and protects confidential conversations from being overheard, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of discussions.

COMPLIANCE AND LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Depending on the industry and jurisdiction, there may be legal requirements or standards regarding acceptable noise levels and acoustic conditions in workplaces and meeting rooms. Conducting acoustic assessments helps ensure compliance with regulations, avoiding potential fines or legal issues while demonstrating a commitment to providing a safe and productive work environment for employees.

WHAT IS AN ACOUSTIC ASSESMENT?

An acoustic assessment, also known as a noise assessment or sound audit, is a systematic evaluation of the acoustic conditions within a specific environment. Acoustic assessments are commonly conducted in various settings, including workplaces, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, entertainment venues, and residential buildings, to ensure compliance with acoustic standards, create comfortable environments, and enhance the overall quality of sound within the space. The primary purpose of an acoustic assessment is to measure and analyse various acoustic parameters to determine the level of sound insulation, reverberation, background noise, and other factors that may affect the quality of sound within the space.

During an acoustic assessment, one of our trained professionals will attend site and use specialised equipment such as sound level meters, microphones, and acoustic analysers to collect data on sound levels, frequency distribution, background noise,  reverberation times, and other relevant acoustic parameters. This data is then analysed to identify any acoustic issues or deficiencies within the space, and the data is compared to the relevant Australian Standard (AS/NZS 2107:2016 Section 2 - Video/Audio Conferencing Rooms) to ensure compliance.

Based on the findings of the assessment, recommendations may be provided to improve the acoustic conditions, such as installing sound-absorbing materials, upgrading acoustic insulation, optimising HVAC systems, or adjusting the layout and design of the space. Renders to help visualise the proposed solution may also be included. Importantly, any findings and recommendations may also influence product selection when it comes to the eventual technology design and implementation.
